ABOUT WORTH MILLER |
|
|
Worth
Miller of North Carolina is a practitioner and teacher
of
an evolutionary process based upon
“Natural Horsemanship” practices.
Worth began riding in 1964.
His professional experience of over forty years,
beginning in 1969, includes: training, showing in most
disciplines, conducting clinics and is a well respected
judge. He has instructed and trained hunter/jumpers and
western pleasure.
Additionally, Worth trained Thoroughbred race horses and
has a record of races won per starts in the top
ten-percent of Thoroughbred trainers.
For over ten years he managed
one of North Carolina's premier show stables
as well as re-establishing and coaching
the Duke and UNC inter-collegiate equestrian teams.
In 1992, Worth was
introduced to “Natural Horsemanship” through a Buck
Brannaman (the official Horse Whisperer) clinic, and
from that time he has been devoted to applying these
philosophies in his training, teaching and riding. |

From the time he
was a young boy, Worth Miller had a burning desire
to learn to ride, and when his uncle presented
him with a one-eyed pony at the age of 12, Worth
never looked back. Quickly developing his
riding ability, within 2 years Worth was
showing open jumpers and participating in fox
hunts. It was then that Worth knew he had found his
calling in life. .. learning to communicate with
horses in a language they could understand ... their
own. "As I gained experience, I began to understand
the honest communication horses had with one another
and became determined to understand the relationship
between horse and human."
Although Worth had
been observing and discovering pieces of non-verbal
communication of the horse since his early teens, it
wasn't until several years later when he attended
clinics hosted by Buck Brannaman that he was able to fit these pieces
together. "I was just slightly above the average
professional rider until I experienced the "Buck
Brannaman way." What I witnessed at one of his
clinics was truly amazing. I saw, with my own eyes,
Buck take a confirmed 'non horse trailer loading
horse' and within 35 minutes, teach him to load. In
no time, Buck was loading the horse from a 50 foot
lariat while sitting in the cab of his truck. It was
incredible."
It was
also during this time he discovered his
life's mission: to foster an
understanding between a person and their
horse through the "Natural Horsemanship" technique
whereby the rider will establish leadership without
the use of force. Through this procedure, Worth has
achieved successful training of the horse and rider
as well as developing his own method and created a
riding and training and
program to benefit horses and
riders of all levels.
According
to Worth, "It is important to understand that all horses
do not respond in the same manner to humans and
training. To achieve maximum results, trainers must
learn to be observant, noticing and rewarding the
slightest try. Some clinicians will lead you to believe
their methods will work on any horse, magically
transforming a troubled animal into a wonderful, willing
partner, no matter the problem or severity
However, like other
knowledgeable horse trainers, I have learned through
experience, that some horses won't always respond in
a positive way to training. It is then time to get
truly quiet, listen to the horse and determine what
the underlying problem is."
From the
development of his techniques and training, Worth
facilitates state-of-the-art instructional clinics
teaching information that any horse enthusiast is
able to understand. As Worth states, "there is no
filler or fluff during my clinics to waste your time,. just true 'meat and potatoes'' horse
instruction."
Worth's instruction
has proven that anyone involved with horses in any
way will benefit from learning and practicing his 3
basic equestrian principles: feel, timing and
consistency. His clinics are designed to empower the
owner / rider with knowledge to utilize these
principles into practice, first with his coaching
and then, successfully on one's own. "You will be
taught to communicate more effectively with your
horse, enabling you to bring out the best in any
situation."
With his mission
being accomplished through daily training, and his
passion still afire, Worth flashes that "Worth
Miller smile" and says, "Remember ... you and your
horse are a team - it's not a competition and, after
all, isn't it time you rode a better horse ..
yours?"
